Bert Weir's Painting Creates the Perfect Backdrop for Photos

By | July 24, 2019

Did you know the WKP Kennedy Gallery is North Bay’s only public art gallery?! Our stunning art collection is composed in great part by local and northern Ontario artists. Many exhibitions are by North Bay artists and all entirely free for the public. The WKP Kennedy Gallery is your home for the visual arts of all types. This means that during our open hours, every single member of the community is welcome to stop in for free and have a walk around our two gallery rooms. You can also stop by Alix Voz’s office, our Director/Curator, to ask any questions or request an impromptu curatorial walk through the gallery!  Currently, we have on display our juried exhibition in partnership with the Indigenous Friendship Centre in the front gallery, and ‘Refractions’ by Jaymie Lathem and Allison Roberts through the doors into our second gallery. With our location conveniently situated downtown, we’re the perfect location for a stop on your coffee break.

But just stopping in the gallery for a look at our beautiful exhibits is one thing; another is getting your picture in front of the famous Bert Weir ‘wall’.

If you follow us on Instagram (@kennedygallery), you’ll have already noticed the influx of photos we have of coworkers, artists, and people in the community taking photos in front of a wall-sized painting by Bert Weir. The contrast of vibrant colours, including bold yellows, light blues, and different shades of purple and orange, makes a beautiful background for every photograph. We encourage everyone who steps into our public gallery to take a photo in front of this piece. Post the image on social media and tag us in it so we’re able to see just how much one piece of art can bring the community together.

So next time you stumble into our gallery, take photos. And not just of you in front of the Bert Weir (though of course we highly recommend that), but take photos of the exhibitions, of the artwork that touches you and leaves you with a sense of awe. Keep the memories you’ve made at our art gallery as a souvenir and share them with the world.
