Flashback

By Dan Misturada, Interim Executive Director | March 15, 2021

Today officially marks an anniversary no one ever expected or even wanted. On March 15th, 2020 the Capitol Centre officially made the difficult decision to suspend activity due to the newly declared COVID-19 pandemic. We were preparing to welcome Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers for a night of high energy and nostalgia, but only hours ahead of the performance, in the interest of public safety, the event was cancelled.

At the time, I think many people thought we would shut down for a few weeks and then life would get back to normal. However, as the weeks turned to months, events continued to be postponed and the seriousness of the pandemic began to set in.

Now exactly one year later, we find ourselves still closed to in-person public events but find ourselves thankful for the positives that have come out of this past year.

This past year has strengthened our ties with the local artistic community. Whether it was through our Shared Benefits program, IspiRED Podcasts, or our North Bay Live Series, we have taken immense leaps forward in how we interact with and support local artists and musicians. Our hope is that once the pandemic has passed, our connections to our artistic community will continue to flourish.

The last 12 months have also shown me just how amazing and committed all our team members are in ensuring that the Capitol Centre remains North Bay’s home for arts and entertainment. Their ability to continually pivot and adapt as circumstances continually changed, is a great credit to them and their dedication to not only this organization, but this community as well.

But enough looking back. It is time to look towards the future and all the amazing and positive opportunities that lie ahead. The Capitol Centre has so many exciting things on the horizon for the upcoming year and we cannot wait to share them with you!

Stay tuned for more in the coming months!
