CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES:

The WKP Kennedy Gallery is seeking innovative and dynamic submissions from artists across the region and surrounding areas for our 2024/2025 exhibition season.

The WKP Kennedy Gallery values artistic excellence; curiosity and creativity; inclusivity & diversity; integrity; and collaborations. The WKP works with established, mid-career and emerging artists to present exhibitions that offer ideas and reflections on important current issues such as environment, culture, identity, social justice, community, accessibility and more through contemporary art practices.

The WKP is a Public Art Gallery is a department of the Capitol Centre located in the heart of downtown in North Bay, Ontario. Our Exhibitions rotate every 4-8 weeks and are comprised of self-directed proposals as well as thematic open calls. 

Exhibition applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and will be filed in our system to visit when an appropriate opportunity arises. Priority will be given to artists who have not exhibited in the space over the last 4 years.

WKP CURATORIAL MENTORSHIP: SOLO EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY:

Calling all emerging artists without prior solo-exhibition experience! We invite you to submit proposals for your inaugural solo exhibition. This coveted opportunity offers the selected recipient the chance to have their artwork featured in Gallery I from September 13th to October 26th, 2024. Our aim is to nurture and support budding talent by providing mentorship and guidance in the months leading up to the exhibition. We'll work closely with the chosen artist to develop and refine their body of work, ensuring it is cohesive and impactful for our community audience.

Notifications for the successful recipient will be sent out by June 8th, 2024. FRANCO CONTEMPORAIN: SOLO EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY:

WKP x Bravo Centre are seeking francophone contemporary artists within the Northern Ontario region! All mediums are welcome to apply! The recipient chosen will have their body of work showcased in Gallery II throughout November 15th- December 20th, 2024. DECK THE WALLS: HOLIDAY ART SALE OPPORTUNITY:

The WKP is inviting all artists you to submit 1-3 artworks during our intake period from November 5th to 9th (12-4pm). Rest assured, each participating artist is guaranteed to have at least one piece showcased in our exhibition, with the possibility of all three being displayed, depending on space availability. GENERAL EXHIBITION PROPOSALS:

We appreciate your interest in showcasing your artwork with us. While our current open call opportunity may not align with your proposed exhibition, we encourage you to submit your idea for consideration. We are always eager to discover new artists and talent, and your proposal will be kept on file for future opportunities that may arise. Please provide the following information for our review:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES for Solo Exhibition or Proposed Group Collaborations:

  1. Proposal/Project Description (1 page maximum)
    • Provide a concise overview of your proposed exhibition or collaborative project, outlining the concept, theme, and any relevant contextual information.
  2. Technical Requirements
    • Detail any specific technical requirements necessary for the realization of your exhibition, including equipment, spatial considerations, and any other logistical needs.
  3. Artist/Curatorial Statement (250 words max)
    • Craft a succinct statement that articulates the conceptual underpinnings of your artistic practice or curatorial approach. This statement should offer insight into your creative vision and intentions.
  4. Artist Bio(s) (250 words max, each)
    • Present brief biographical information for all participating artists or curators involved in the proposed exhibition. Highlight key achievements, influences, and contributions to the arts community.
  5. Current CV (3 pages max; including contact info)
    • Submit up-to-date curriculum vitae for each participant, showcasing their professional experience, education, exhibitions, and relevant affiliations. Please ensure all contact information is accurate.
  6. Support Material
    • Include visual, audio, or other multimedia materials that provide a comprehensive understanding of your artistic practice or proposed project. Acceptable formats include JPG images or links to online platforms showcasing your work.
  7. Support Material List
    • Compile a detailed list of all support materials included in your submission. For visual works, provide the title of each piece, date created, medium, and dimensions. For video/audio files, specify the preferred viewing/listening segment within the provided time constraints.

 

SELECTION PROCESS:

Proposals submitted for consideration undergo a rigorous evaluation process by the Programming Committee, which consists of the Executive Director and three working artists or curators from the region. Each proposal is assessed based on its artistic merit, project viability, and alignment with the WKP's mandate and programming focus, with a particular emphasis on community relevance.

Following the deliberations of the Programming Committee and considering budgetary and scheduling constraints, the Executive Director ultimately makes the final decisions regarding the selection of each exhibition.

The WKP Kennedy Gallery is designated as a Category 1 gallery and is classified as a small space by Copyright Visual Arts – Droits d’auteur Arts Visuels. As such, we adhere to the guidelines set forth by Copyright Visual Arts and pay full artist fees accordingly.
